New Here....and a Brief Intro
by Yan Bibiyan inafter lurking around here for about a month, i thought it's appropriate to introduce myself to such fine group of people.. i was never a jw.
been married to a baptized mate for over 15 years.
my wife was never technically all in, more of a fader, rarely went to meetings, the occasional memorial, a convention once or twice.

Serenity, I too was raised by pioneer parents (1975ers), no fun at all and my parents ended up divorced also. I remember, while being dragged around in a cold car on Saturday morning, wishing for the simplest things like a home where you could just watch cartoons on Saturday morning. I am so happy that you are out, we won't be repeating those mistakes on our children! Keep your focus on the future! You are in my thoughts. NMKA

When you meet up with real life friends who are ex-Jehovah's Witnesses...
by Quillsky in....... how much of your conversation is "exie" stuff?.
for me, i don't have many ex-jw friends, but those i do have are brilliant friends and we entertain our partners a lot with ex-talk.
the spouses find our history a bit weird but fascinating..

I really only have one ex-JW friend, we do talk about it a lot. We had different JW experiences. I was born in, that is faded. She came in as an adult, after her children were grown and eventually DAed after a 10 year stint. Now she has an adult son about to get baptised that of course will not talk to her. She has many questions that only a lifer can answer. I am always curious as to what made her join as an adult.
We are meeting a JW family for dinner tonight and I can guarantee you "the truth" is all we will talk about. Mainly their complete and utter disenchantment with the whole thing, but they keep going back for more! NMKA

Does ANYTHING About JWs Make Sense To You?
by minimus ini've been thinking about why people become jehovah's witnesses and why they remain in the religion.. it seems like almost everything they believe in is flawed.. the chronology, which this religion is founded on is a problem.. their understanding of bible prophecy is pathetically funny.
they teach everything in prophetic bible books ultimately apply to them.. their belief that the "faithful & discreet slave class" exists is ridiculous.
in all fairness, they cannot 'prove" anything they say about their organization as being "truth".

No not really. I have a friend that was in for 10 years and eventually DA'ed herself. Coming in as an adult the "what happens when we die" appealed to her. I am comfortable in not knowing. NMKA

by Bonnie_Clyde inclyde has a great answer.
he says, "no, i take my faith too seriously.
" he says that ends the conversation.

I would go to church for a friends funeral or wedding. But just to go to church, well, I have had enough of that to last a lifetime. NMKA

by dissed inno, not the movie.
but my daughters final prom as a high school senior.

Hi Dissed, my son is also a senior and will be attending next month. He is going tux shopping next week with his little girlfriend, she already has her dress. They will go to the dinner and dance, then they are coming to our house with a few other friends. They can stay up all night, just glad they will be here. Some of the other parents are coming over for pictures and to socialize after the kids leave. The kids have all promised to call if there has been any drinking and we will pick them up, no questions asked. BTW, they are going to an amusement park the next day, on a bus with the calculus club (how cute is that?)
My son also went to homecoming and had a great time.
Yes, I went to Prom it was the only rebellious thing I did in my life. We had a great time, went to an after prom party at a hotel ( sorry there was no drug induced, devil worshipping, rock and roll lesbian prostitution ring). I think I was in bed by 2am with no harm, still have the cute picture in my 80's style taffeta dress. Glad I rebelled once. NMKA

Do you Know of any JW Pedophiles who Currently Go Out in Service ?
by flipper inmy wife suggested this thread and i agree it's a good idea to put this out here to find out.
just wanted to give her credit for the idea.. most of the public have no idea that some of the jehovah's witnesses people calling at their door are a previously convicted sex offender or pedophile who may have served hard time in prison for their crime.
it would be interesting to have an informal survey here and get an idea of the sheer numbers of these child molesters who are out on the loose.. in your opinion - how would the public react if they knew that child molesters were regularly calling on their doors ?

Yes, there was a person in our congregation from a large JW family the was found guilty of raping many children, went to prison and was eventually paroled. I was keeping track of him online and we were waiting for the day that he showed his face again. Well, one Sunday there he was sitting with his JW extended family, his fiance and her 10 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER !!!! Many families with young children in our congregation didn't know about his past. By checking the sex offenders (he is a tier 3) web site online I was able to find out what county he was from. I called his parole officer, apparently he let him come to our county to see his family for a weekend, but was unaware of his church attendance, going to a local fair or the fiancee with a child. Yes he was going out in service. My call to the parole office did not exactly make me popular, however it was one of the things that did convince my husband to leave. We have warned several families with children that were unaware of his past.
